Milestones, level gains, HP growth, MP growth, and capstones for One Hero Engine v0.20.

Attribute maximum

No Attribute may rise above 18.

HP progression

At levels 3, 5, 7, and 9:

  • gain +2 maximum HP

MP progression

Magic User MP progression:

  • level 3: +1 MP
  • level 5: +1 MP
  • level 7: +1 MP
  • level 9: +1 MP

Trait progression

  • Level 1: gain your ancestry Trait, class Trait, and first path Trait
  • Level 2: gain the second path Trait from your chosen path
  • Level 4: upgrade one Trait using its printed upgrade line
  • Level 6: gain the third path Trait from your chosen path
  • Level 8: upgrade one Trait using its printed upgrade line

Capstones

Fighter capstone

Last Stand

  • Trigger or action: when you would be Defeated.
  • Target: yourself.
  • Exact effect: remain at 1 HP and immediately take one extra action.
  • Duration: immediate.
  • Usage limit: once per session.
  • Recovery: after a long rest.

Rogue capstone

Untouchable Exit

  • Trigger or action: when you end your turn after moving or dealing damage.
  • Target: yourself.
  • Exact effect: move one range band and become untargetable until you act again unless an enemy has a clear supernatural way to follow you.
  • Duration: until your next action.
  • Usage limit: once per session.
  • Recovery: after a long rest.

Magic User capstone

Mythic Casting

  • Trigger or action: when you cast a spell.
  • Target: one spell you know.
  • Exact effect: cast the spell without spending MP and treat the roll as a natural 1 if a roll is required.
  • Duration: one spell.
  • Usage limit: once per session.
  • Recovery: after a long rest.

Milestone guidance

Award a level only when the hero completes a meaningful objective, survives a costly turning point, or changes the direction of the ongoing problem. Do not award levels after every short session automatically.
